Banksy is a graffiti artist who attempts to remain anonymous. His art is meant to be seen by the masses and not in a museum. There is often a political statement or social commentary with a twist of humor. I find his work to be thought provoking, simple, and accessible. He continues to stay out of the spotlight.
Keith Haring was a graffiti artist who became popular during the 1980s with his simple, graphic imagery. His artwork also made social and political statements about issues during his lifetime, such as gay rights, AIDS, among others. He used bold lines and bright colors. His work is one of the first artists I remember seeing as a child, and it has stuck with me since.
Albrecht Durer's work always spoke to me since the first time I saw one of his woodcut prints. His work done during the 1500's is considered some of the greatest work every done. He is considered the master of the Northern Renaissance and his woodcuts changed what was possible for the a woodcut print. His woodcuts are so intricate and detailed, its incredible to think of what he did with a piece of wood and carving tools. I look at his work and see the beginning of graphic design.
